The most devastating stock market crash in the history of the United States; Its from my favorite documentary by PBS - New York. This particular part about Wall Street crash of 1929 is from episode 5 of the series with title: Cosmopolis there are lots of archive photos, footages and drawings throughout the series and in my opinion it was great work done with finding them. series website: www.pb...

I wonder what “last thing” Talby was going to tell Doolittle? You can hear him say something right as he goes out of communication.

I love how some people believe that this couldn't happen again because as a civilization or as Americans we are so smart we can control these things. Through budgeting for example. What nonsense. It's happening again and it started on December 21st. The second phase of the crash is starting now and it will be catastrophic. America is the most in debt country in the world and all that "wealth" is a mere illusion built in a foundation of junk credit. We repeat cycles of history and psychology all the time

The ending of the film is based on the short story by Ray Bradbury "Kaleidoscope" from the Illustrated Man. That doesn't detract from the film or anything: Dan O'Bannon very explicitly stated they borrowed from Bradbury's story. While the ending can appear sad, I don't think that was the intention. The men of the ship had lost meaning in their lives and only found thrills in the brief endorphin rush of blowing up planets. In the end, as Talby and Doolittle drifted apart in space, their lives now almost over, they were both able to find a little joy: Talby joins with the Phoenix Asteroid, something he's always wished to see, and Talby is able to surf one last time, the thing he truly missed back on earth. Even the bomb has a religious moment, giving its purpose profound meaning. LIfe has value in the moment as your experience it: beginning, middle, and end.

On Monday, Oct 19 1987, the DJIA fell 22.61% -- this is equivalent to the Oct 28 & 29th 1929 percentage losses combined. However, the economy was strong when this debacle occurred, and there was not even a mild recession in 1988.

I think as Dark Star drew inspiration as a parody from sci fi such as 2001 and Star Trek, Red Dwarf clearly used this movie as direct inspiration. Pinback is clearly Rimmer, Boiler the Cat, and Doolittle is Lister.

S&P is down 13.8% by end of Q1 in 2022 and I can't help but notice some eerie similarities before the downturn of 1929. Obviously we have more safety protocols in place, but regardless stocks are not a great place to be right now.

The parallels of 1929 to 2022: 1) sales were down; 2) The economy had started to cool the year before - and this is the biggest in my opinion - 3) The Wall street economy started to disconnect from the real economy. This fueled speculation. THEORY: Peoples savings/debt fueled the 1928 stock market and people's savings and future debt fueled the 2022 stock market through qe. Just a theory, but if true we are living with a false positive in 2022 very much like the false positive of 1928. One thing we need to be sure to see - if 1928 had clear warning signs most people did not see them until it was too late to do anything about it. 2022 does have some warning signs. Let's start with $30,000,000,000,000 plus in debt.
